Events in Rupert

Upcoming Events

Given Linda's own humble artistic and musical aspirations, it's no big surprise that Rendezvous Rupert has turned out to be a perfect venue for art dates, house concerts, song circles and informal jams. Inside or out on the deck, both local and not so local talent share their love of creative endeavours. Often we share some food together and get to know each other informally. We hope you'll come join us one of these days.

Art Dates

Once a month you are invited to Rendezvous Rupert with your paints, your writing, or whatever your medium, to play with your creative side in a welcoming atmosphere. Linda will have a focus (style, material, topic) for each day that you are welcome to play with or follow your own creative muse.

You may choose to work in solitude or to enjoy the company of others while you explore. Whatever the case, it's a great opportunity to break away from the familiarity and sink yourself into another world.

Watch the inspiration seep in and then follow you home...

Sunday Music Jams

Come sing, hum, strum or simply tap your feet with us. Bring along your voice, an instrument and a few songs you'd love to play with others. I'll supply the coffee and tea and various percussion instruments. Small key board and several guitars available for you to use as well.

We do not have any scheduled Music Jams at this time, however if you are interested in using the space at Rendezvous Rupert to come and jam with some pals, give us a shout!

LAURA BIRD & DARREN ARSENAULT     POSTPONED UNTIL A LATER DATE
“A large platter of smokey roots n’ blues smothered in swingin’ country sauce, piled high on a bed of hot toasted bluegrass with gooey, hot melted chunks of jazz!”

About Laura
Drawing inspiration from a mosaic of musical influences beginning with early folk roots and bluegrass to old jazz standards, Bird’s songs tug at the familiar; contemporary set against the backdrop of a traditional musical panorama. Through the keen eye of the observer her songs are sensitive, compassionate and heartfelt often drawing visual references from a childhood spent growing up in small town Ontario along the St. Lawrence River. With her warm, relaxed stage presence, finely honed guitar work, a painters' eye for lush images and sultry, smokey voice, you'll want to close your eyes and watch the mind movies inspired by Laura’s soundtrack.  For more information please visit  www.laurabird.com

About Darren
Known for his strong banjo and guitar ability, Darren also plays a whack of other stringed instruments including Dobro, mandolin, dulcimer, harp, drums and percussion. His rhythmic and percussive style comes from his formative years as a drummer. His resonant voice and emotionally charged lyrics combined with his energy on stage, makes him one of the brightest shining musical entertainers in Nova Scotia.

So far we've enjoyed three concerts one with Chris MacLean, Alise Marlane and Acacia Lyra. Stay tuned for more concerts in the future. If you would like to perform a house concert at Rendezvous Rupert, give us a call!

Art Parties

We want to promote artists and inspire others to explore their own creative inclinations. Recently we've been exploring the possibility of hosting Art Parties. Like a vernisage but with some different twists co-created with the artist and ourselves. One idea is that we could combine a visual artist with a musical artist to create an ART CONCERT. Or something that combines theatre and music. Or how about some participative event where the artist also leads us into making some art ourselves?! Improv, music, visual art...lets see what we might co-create!

If you would like to talk to us about displaying your art here ...give us a call!  (819) 459-3580

Ceilidh Dance (at the Rupert Hall)

Since Linda arrived in Rupert in 1993 she has heard lots of stories about how this tiny community was known for its community events, especially its rollicking dances that had the old floor boards shaking. Working with her neighbours, Linda hopes to revive the tradition of hosting fun and intergenerational events like the dances of old.

Come meet your neighbours and dance to the infectious acoustic rhythms of La pêche's hottest new dance band made up of local's Brian Sanderson, Bruce Cawdron, Denis Drouin and Peter Andrée. For this month's Ceilidh. There will be plenty of music for dancing up a storm.

Where: Rupert Hall, 24 Shouldice Rd., Rupert, Quebec
